Passport and Visa

Everyone needs a valid passport. Find out whether you need a visa to enter.

Passports

Every student needs a valid passport. The passport must be valid for six months after your departure date from Israel.

If you are a US citizen and need to apply for, or renew your passport, routine service requires 4-6 weeks. If you need to renew your passport or apply for one, you should do so ASAP.

MISTI MIT-Israel Visa Process

READ THIS ENTIRE DOCUMENT VERY CAREFULLY

The new system will require complete compliance with all required materials, etc. Failure to comply may result in failing to receive your visa.

  • You need a A2 student visa if: you are studying/interning at a university, regardless of your country of origin
  • You need a B2 visitor visa if:  you are not a US citizen, AND you see “req.” under the “visa” column on THIS CHART[1] from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Some examples are passport holders from China, India, Thailand, and Ethiopia.
  • You do not need a visa in advance if: you are an American citizen or from a visa exempt country interning in industry for 90 days or less. You will receive an entry permit upon arrival with a letter stating the purpose of your visit from MISTI.

You will need to make an individual appointment at the Consulate 45 days in advance of your trip if you have passports from the following countries:  Afghanistan; Bahrain; Egypt; Indonesia; Iran; Iraq; Jordan; North Korea; Kuwait; Lebanon; Libya; Malaysia; Mauritania; Morocco; Oman; Pakistan; Qatar; Russia; Saudi Arabia; Somalia; South Sudan; Sudan; Syria; Tunisia; UAE; Yemen

If this applies to you, please contact Samantha (quints@mit.edu) for additional information.
